Yesterday I finished out the last of my finals for the school year. Now it’s time for summer to start, even if the trees are still naked and it might snow again soon here in Bozeman. I’m starting summer off with a bang too! Today I’m heading down to Ten Sleep Canyon for four days with Joanna. Right now we don’t really have much of a plan but I’m sure it’s going to be a great time. The only plan we have is to meet up with my roommate, Ansel, and a few of his friends who are down there for the weekend only. For the most part we are at the will of the snow level in the canyon. The higher the snow line the better our trip is going to be since our camping spot is pretty far up there.
The other worry is a little bit of weather that may be heading our way. The chance of precip. is fairly low so I’m hopeful it wont be too bad. If the weather turns out to be real nasty I’m hoping we can go to Lander and climb at the Killer Cave even if it is raining.
Joanna’s never been to Ten Sleep, and I’m excited to see how she’ll fair on long sport climbs, seeing as she did so well when we went to Joe’s Valley and Cody, WY last fall. By all accounts she’s had a great spring route climbing around Bozeman, I haven’t climbed with her much on ropes before, but I’ve heard that she’s flashed a bunch of hard 11s and easy 12s!
After I made some good links and found really good beta for Ten Pin with Pat (who should send soon!) on Wednesday, I’m really excited to try just about everything down in Ten Sleep. Maybe even set my sights on something harder for me since we should be there for a while.
On Thursday I’m going to start setting for SCS Region Finals with the Spire Crew for the competition on Saturday. Jeff’s got most of it planned out already from what I’ve seen. We will be setting 15 of the longest (30-40 moves) routes possible in the gym to challenge the kids. I haven’t ever set for a Region Final before and its going to be fun being on the opposite side of the curtain so to speak, instead of competing.
After that I’ll be heading home for a week and a half. I already got to see my parents last weekend at my cousin Tom’s wedding in Palo Alto, CA, but I can’t wait to be on the east coast again. Warm weather, trees with leaves on them, home cooked meals, hanging out with friends I haven’t seen in a while, and another biannual trip to Rumney are just a few of the things I’m looking forward to. It’s going to be a great start to my summer vacation!
